Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1
I’ve been reading A. W. Tozer’s “The Pursuit of God” again, and have spent time considering a way he describes faith.
Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.
A.W. Tozer in The Pursuit of God
Fixing your gaze on God means that you presently see God. How can you not believe in what you presently see? Tozer makes the point that faith is unaware of itself, as it is focused on its object.
Instead of telling someone, or yourself, “just have faith,” which implies awareness of faith, it seems better to say, “in your soul, look to God.”

Hi Davin
I was interested in your rieska recipe. Have you ever made it with barley grits? My dad had it at home every saturday night. I’m trying to decipher the recipe. It is fabulous, but quite different from the recipe you have.
Also interesting is your faith and your lovely little girls.
Are you of Finnish origin?
Blessings for now,
Anitta in Ontario
Thanks Anitta, yes, my family is of Finnish descent. I haven’t made it with barley grits, but if you do decipher that recipe, I’m interested in trying it! Good luck. There is a brand of cereal called Maltex (I find it hard to find where I live now) that can replace oatmeal in the recipe I posted. That is also good, but I think I prefer the oatmeal kind.
