Can you guess what it is?
B1
I actually saw that on a church sign tonight.
I’ve got a confession to make. I am not a good Christian. And don’t worry. I’m not leading any small groups or mentoring anyone so the health and wellbeing of the flock should be secure.
But I did a little inventory today of what I believe. It was shocking and embarassing (two r’s or two s’s?). But I think it’s true.
I don’t believe in the whole concept of “Just keep praying, just keep praying, just keep praying, praying, praying.” Really I want someone to tell me what is prayer supposed to be like? Am I the only one who has ever questioned whether I’m talking to myself? And am I the only one who doesn’t have large swathes of time with which to “lay on my face” and wait for God to do something?
Joe Canvas Shoe Christian: you have to make time. You are not doing anything more important.
Right, not chasing the children or will work for food or on the rare occasion, sleeping to get up and do it all again.
Either way, my point is that I cannot in good conscience say that I believe that when someone says “I’ll pray for you” life’s gonna get any better.
Another point. I don’t think I do so well as a Christian wife. I can’t seem to get the balance of submission and death just right. working on it, though.
It’s kind of liberating to take off my white canvas shoes for a moment.
sometimes God sucks. and if that makes me a petulant little child, so be it.

Welcome to the club of real, no white canvas shoe (if I understand your analogy correctly) believers. Being honest about where your at is pretty much the only place I know that you can start from that can get you anywhere. Keep up the good work! It seems deep and often ugly honesty is an imortant part of what the NT authors refer to as “coming into the light” or “walking in the light”.
Chey, I have to say I like your blogging because it’s so honest. I think that quality makes you very ‘trust-able’ (whether or not that’s a word).
For my own part:
Sometimes I pray because I believe God cares and is listening and things will change.
Sometimes I pray because I hope that God is there caring, listening, and changing things.
Sometimes I pray because I don’t feel God really exists at all, but I still desparately need care, an ear, and changes.
Now, two questions:
1. Have you been watching too much Finding Nemo?
2. What do you refer to when you say the balance between submission and death?
Well Chey, if it makes you feel any better, at times it seems that I’m just talking to myself when I pray but I’m sure God does hear our prayers but will answer them in his time. So have faith, my dear and be happy. And let me also add, and hope it makes you feel better also, that I don’t pray like I should. But you know, I’ve heard said that even a sigh of a Christian is a prayer unto God.
Can any of us claim to be Good Christians? That’s why we need the Lord to help us every day.
So ends my bit of wisdom for today, if it be such.
I Love you, Auntie Helen.
Travis: Finding Nemo? I’ve only seen it once. But you make me laugh. I like that. I like to laugh.
The balance between submission and death. a wife who believes the bible and has no recourse but to live with her husband rides the balance between submission and death. Sometimes the difference is hard to see, especially for people like me who are not naturally co-pilots. It gets hard to follow the leader sometimes. I’m sure each person (or wife) can imagine an instance in his or her own life where obedience rankled. Make up your own scenario and apply it. I think it’s a good thing for Husbands to remember. We are behind you. Whether you lead us to heaven or to hell.
Again, I’ve said too much. Comes from being shoeless.
Explanation on the Finding Nemo question:
The way you said, “Just keep praying, just keep praying, just keep praying, praying, praying.” reminded me of the “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming” thing in it.
Maybe I’ve been watching too much Nemo…
